Did the world really need a cover of MGMT’s “Kids?” I say yes…as long as it’s this damned groovy.

From the debut album Future Loops by Britain’s Radio 1 Beatbox Champion THePETEBOX.

The track was recorded live in one take.

Future Loops will be released on April 12.

I found this guys cover of The Pixies “Where Is My Mind” a while ago.

He’s very talented but, for some reason, I fear he might be a poser (yes, i am human and judge without personal evidence) but his choice of music gives me hope he’s not.

Anyway, poser or not, I dig his version of ‘Where Is My Mind’ A LOT.  I highly suggest it:

Also, the shallow depth of field photography is very effective to convey ‘artistic-ness’.  I approve.

btw:  my friend who’s a gay chubby preferer saw frank black shirtless backstage one time.  highlight of his life.
not franks life.. my friends life.

If Bobby McFerrin was around today and used loop pedals he’d smoke this dude.

Let’s see the video of him actually triggering the loops with his foot pedal. I call bullshit.

@ pimpy c

You question someones ability to trigger pedals?  Wow.  You need to move on to bigger questions.

If you think Bobby McFerrin could smoke this guy, you haven’t heard of “Police Academy” Michael Winslow.  Bobby McFerrin’s a gimmic.  Winslow’s an artist.

That’s the only recent clip I could find but if that cat used digital record/repeat gear he’d cover any song fantasically with NO instruments but himself.

I could detect the more subtle than usual but still there effects of Autotune. Instant credibility-destroyer.

I retract that comment, some of the earlier vibrato sounded suspicious and I am cynical, but watching the rest made me doubt my initial suspicions. Dangerous Minds, you need to expand your comment facilities to include editing/deleting comments.

Definitely no AutoTune, as some of the parts are noticibly out of tune.  Still, a delightful performance that I will be sharing with everyone I know today. Excited to check out “Where Is My Mind”.

This guy’s talent gives me shivers.  Anybody else wonder how Bowie and Eno would/did respond to this?  My guess is with huge creativity boners.

Well, is there Autotune?  I can believe how some people might find this unbelievable, but I, for one, find it believable.

The Voicelive 2 has pitch correction, doubt he could use it effectively in those loud environments though - I think you are hearing all the doubling/harmonies/phasing of the vocal layers…esp. noticeable when he stacks chords with individual voices.

Sorry - I was watching another vid of him live when I was thinking ‘loud environments’ - but still doesn’t sound like autotune to me.

Henry, I agree.

I don’t think there’s any autotune going on there.  Dude’s got a really nice-sounding voice.  And what he is doing with the pedals (and I do believe there’s no trickery there) is not even remotely easy when you combine with singing AND playing the guitar at the same time.

Also, Bobby McFerrin, if you’ve ever seen him live, is *extraordinarily* talented. It’s too bad he’s most recognized for that one admittedly hacky/gimmicky song.

doesn’t really fuss me that much, ? beatboxing hasn’t impressed me for a long time though… still, nice to see a guitar in the mix
