Gilding the lily?  More like taking a crap on it.  Words can’t describe how awful this is.

...IMHO.

why and who would get such a tattoo? Does it show that they want to be Kerouac? That they admire his writing so much, they would put this on their back?Do they understand what Kerouac understood? What I understand is that the “Beat” writers, or what was called Beat, was a few poets and writers that broke out of the gray 50’s and began to see the world around them in a more realistic light. But,in order to do this they had to get into jazz and experiment with the writing, so that means typing a lot of words on paper, and taking bennies, or drinking a lot of cheap red wine, and reading certain writers, that broke out of the academic box.Kerouac meant a lot to the times, his vision of On The Road was a call to let it all hang out.And writing like this is like a tattoo on your heart the words are like ink that goes into your body, and the words are taboo tattoo that leave a stain on your skin. But isn’t it enough to leave them on the pages of a book? Does a Kerouac tattoo now tell the world where the words really are?

You boys are so grumpy today! I think it’s a gorgeous tattoo. Obviously Kerouac means a lot to this person & she wanted a permanent way to express that. Geez, it’s not like you’re being forced to get inked. And I bet her boyfriend thinks it’s pretty neat too.

hey, it’s fine and great that somebody wants a too like this.I was just thinking about the writing that the tat represents.

That’s not writing, that’s typing.

Why do you guys care who got this or why? It’s their body and they got it simply because they wanted to. If you don’t lime it, don’t get it. I guess picking on someone for their tattoo that YOU don’t like makes you feel better. Perhaps you’ve never heard of live and let live. Sad.

as far as the not writing, it’s typing, we know who said that.Well, i guess all the people that love Kerouac disagree.Typing is writing, and writing is typing. It’s like saying that there is only one way to write, but there is a infinite amount of ways to type. As far as the tattoo, and the people that think that people are against it, that are freaked out, it’s too bad! I really could care less about what people ink on their bodies. It’s a personal choice, however sometimes people want to remove them. There are other considerations also.

I think this tattoo is f’ng hip as all get out. Then again, one might have to be INTO tattoos to begin with to be into this one, dig?

One can dissect and explicate the reasons for and against why this tattoo runs contrary to what Kerouac and the Beats stood for and blah blah blah, but at the end of the day this chica is just giving props to a tremendous writer who touched so many people. And let’s face it, if everyone in America felt compelled to get a Kerouac tattoo, it’d be a far better country to live in. We all know this is true.

“What is the feeling when you’re driving away from people, and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing? -it’s the too huge world vaulting us, and it’s good-bye. But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies.” -JK
