Shot over the course of eighteen months, Julien Nitzberg’s amazing documentary film, The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia follows the often comical, sometimes tragic antics of the hell-raising hillbilly White family of Boone County, WV. The Whites engage in a mind-blowing array of anti-social and criminal activities with barely concealed glee. This must-see film is unlike like any documentary I’ve ever seen and finally, a year after this interview was taped, it’s getting released theatrically and on iTunes and Amazon.
I was flipping through TV channels and found this documentary and thought I’d watch it since i am from West Virginia and low and behold it makes people from the state of west Virginia look like stupid, ignorant, and just straight up dumb. This is the most disgraceful movie I have ever seen!! It makes coal miners out to be jerks and doesn’t show how hard they really work. I am 19 years old and work really hard to show that people from West Virginia aren’t so called rednecks and this movie makes it hard to do. Not everyone is like this family and you making this movie show’s people that we are all stupid! This movie shows that people leave their kids and try to kill people and we are all not like this. This movie should be taken off the air and a new movie about the people of West Virginia should be mad immediately.

Malina - No intelligent person or even half wit confuses this family with all of West Virginia. They represent Virginia no more than Arnold Schwarzenegger (douche) represents me & California as governor. BTW - Bush never represented me while in office either & I’m pretty sure the whole world saw that jerk on the tv everyday. When movies like this mine the depths of human experience they show us a richness & darkness that some never get to see. Why so afraid to shine a light on our dark places? Your concern need only be with how others see you - and they see you by how you choose to act in their presence. Nothing else matters.

Oh and if after you notify the movie police to remove this film from the face of the earth . . . Why don’t you spend the time and money making your own film about West Virginia? Hell, make a 5 minute clip about West Virginia that gets over 1 million views on YouTube.
No excuses. There is doing & not doing & this movie maker did something. Good do better then.
