Yeah, I was the same way when the GOP convention was in town.
not “dangerous”
Too bad no one in his circle was able to play him some Beatles…I find a lot of the more classically-inclined tend to like them.
Even my dad, who was a bebopper of old (and a Jazz snob) ended up liking them after hearing Sgt Pepper’s countless times (because I begged him to play the copy I had received from his own best friend).
He still hates Bob Dylan, though.
Didn’t he die a year or two ago?
“...It’s not my kind of thing. I prefer classical music.”
I recall my dad listening to the radio when I was a kid, one of those muzak 101 Strings stations that have disappeared. He claimed it was classical music, but I pointed out “dad, this a Beatles song being played by a string orchestra, this is “Let It Be.” He didn’t get it, all he heard was a large string orchestra, that was “classical.”
I bet the guys in the background on the cover of Booker T’s ‘McElmore Avenue’ were Bar-Kays fans.
God bless this old gent, four kooks is perfect, always thought the beatles were trite, hyped bunch of wankers. Buncha teenyboppers happened to be saved by a classically trained producer, with no live act at all just honky electronica and pilfered bits. Betwixt tamponhead and wifebeater, I too prefer Mahler.
and still hate Bob “dylan” like the thieving magpie product huckster he is.
Wouldn’t you just DIE without Mahler!
Agreed: Life is too short to waste on Dylan.
Nice post, thanks for posting.
