Michelle Bachmann - ‘Lyin’ Ass Bitch’

Much respect to The Roots’ Questlove for what has to be one of the best TV punkings of all time. When Michelle Bachman appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night, his band The Roots played the Fishbone track “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” as she stepped on stage (as NO-ONE applauded). We couldn’t think of a better song! Questlove has since been “grounded” by Fallon (whatever that means), but we wouldn’t worry too much about it - aside from all his excellent music work, this guarantees the guy legendary status.

questlove should be ashamed of himself and apologize for his song choice last night against Michelle Bachman.  She may or may not be all the worst things you want to call her by but she is due respect as a guest of the show.

She got all the respect a homophobic, ignorant piece of shit deserves. Go Roots!

LennyP says:

RIGHT ON dannyv! And you know what else? Those goddam audience members ought to be ASHAMED of themselves! How DARE they not clap a guest, who may or may not be all the things you want her to be but is most definitely not, she is due RESPECT for simply being a guest on the show!! RESPECT GODDAM YOU!!!

LennyP, respect is earned. What has Bachman earned?

Spudley says:

Hey DannyV and LennyP,

If Michelle Bachmann wants respect, perhaps she should get out there and DAMN WELL EARN IT through the quality of her actions. So far I’ve seen nothing from her that deserves anything but mockery and derision.

So shut yer yaps, ya mooks!

Respect is a two-way street.
People use that word so easily, but really don’t know what it means.

dannyv says:

There are many uses for the word respect.  None of them include referring to your guest as a bitch.

I think Lenny is funning us, but Danny? Eh, not so much. I often wonder where they get those idiots for embarrassing man-on-the-street interviews. Then I remember; the world is filled with Dannys. Anyone who thinks Bachman deserves respect deserves no respect. Danny would probably applaud politely if Pol Pot took the stage.  Bachman would have no power if it weren’t for her enablers.

Respect.

It’s hard to respect someone who says “gays are a part of Satan.”  That is the very definition of “demonization.”

But hey, if dannyv and lennyp stood up for Michelle Obama when she got booed at the NASCAR race this weekend, then they are at least consistent.

The real point here is that Fishbone is awesome.

That’s fucking beautiful.

Lenny - you made me laugh, even if other people dont seem to recognize irony.

Danny - you’re an ass.

Bachmann?  What a cunt.

Name calling is immature and counterproductive.  Most of the objections are angry.  When you allow emotion to guide you, you surrender the discussion.  Control your passion and put that energy into rational argumentation.  No one wants to be sworn at just because their approach is different from yours.

Just sayin... says:

@ Danny-

Its that kind of thinking that has made Obama such a ineffectual president. It only works if the other side are playing by the same rules.  When they arent, and youre taking the whole ‘high road’ approach you get trampled.

Plus, its a late night talk show, not church. Since when did we have to treat wing-nut Christian zealots with kid gloves?  If Fallon had have been doing his job as a comedian, Questlove wouldn’t have to do it from the band stabd…

Eh. Not crazy about calling women “bitches,” which I think is the real problem with this.

Jimmy Fallon showed some class with his apology.  Time for Questlove to man up.

For chrise sake’s commenters - this is Bachmann we are talking about.  One of the most untrustworthy, vile and selfish human beings ever to have taken an oath in Congress.

And that’s saying something.

This woman deserves this +1000

Nov 23, 2011
Matt Cornell says:

@POCA

“This woman deserves this”

Yeah, she deserves criticism. Just not the sexist kind. We deserve better.

KerrieSue says:

Respect is NOT earned. I’m so sick of hearing that. It sounds like an entitled college freshman who doesn’t like his/her writing assignment. One problem with this “respect is earned” BS is its broad application.  I don’t respect Bachman, but that is because she has said and done many things that I find repugnant and mean-spirited (to say the least). For me, respect is something I give away but could change my mind about if the person in question does or says things that are unkind and hurtful to other people. There are lots of people I respect who have not “earned” it: my elders, teachers, relatives, friends, day care workers, the guy down the street who takes care of his sick wife, etc.

If the people at Late Night don’t like Bachman, don’t respect her, and think she is a lying bitch, then they don’t have to have her on the show. Having her on the show and then humiliating her by playing that song as a kind of inside joke makes the people at Late Night look petulant and immature and somewhat cowardly. This is the kind of thing bullies do, is it not?

Spudley says:

KerrieSue: What’s wrong with respect being earned? Everyone gets a basic level of respect, and it gets added to or depleted by the quality of your actions - a paraphrasing of your own words. Bachmann has done absolutely NOTHING to earn any further respect from anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together through the quality of her words and actions, so what’s your problem with giving some derision and mockery to someone who sincerely deserves it?
