New Beatles branded tennis shoes: All you need is dough

image

With The Beatles and Apple Corporation’s seal of approval, Commes des Garcons in tandem with French company Spring Court are selling tennis shoes emblazoned with The Beatles and Apple logos.

While this appears to be just another tacky attempt at sucking more money from the Beatles’ legacy, there is some historical context for this particular bit of marketing. John Lennon wears Spring Court sneakers on the cover of Abbey Road.

If you’ve got a spare $295.00 lying around and dubious taste in footwear, you can buy the sneakers here.

A friend bought the Jimi Hendrix Converse and was amused to note that the 60’s icon’s shoes had a ‘Made in Vietnam’ tag inside.
Oh, the irony!
Who really lost that war?

Plus this serves to fill the pockets of some Apple Corp. CE-somethings, including Steve Jobs.
And the Yuppie-Hipsters will be pleased to pay. Not to mention some underpaid working-slaves in sweatshops anywhere in Asia.

Beatles and Apple Records merchandising has nothing to do with Apple, the computer company and/or its iTunes venture, unless it somehow compels a few people to buy Beatles songs from iTunes.
Even then, the songs and recordings thereof aren’t owned by Apple.
But you’re right on about the irony of Yupsters wearing the sweat and blood of slaves!

Well, when there’s an Apple Corp. logo on it, then Cupertino will get some revenue.

@ricardo

if you look closely you’ll see that the apple on the shoe is not the same as the icon for the Cupertino company. The Beatles created their own record company and called it Apple. So, two different companies . . . Cupertino will not get any revenue from this deal.

Right. I read this article on a mobile device and was not able to view the logo clearly. You are right, I was wrong.

When you think of the Beatles intentions for the original Apple corps, and now see all the cheap merchandising ,it shows how far the dream has fallen. oh well, we all have to grow up some time ... I guess!
