Last month after I posted a rip-snorting version of “Paint It Black” by Eric Burdon and War, my Dangerous Minds colleague, Tara McGinley forwarded, what can only be described as an epic cover of that song by The Animals.

This is a fantastic, trippy, and mind-blowing version, one which captures a dark hallucinogenic world of sixties’ psychedelia. The clip made me think of Kenneth Anger’s Lucifer Rising, in particular Bobby Beausoleil’s soundtrack (which came later, much later), where this track could easily sit. Turn down the lights.
