The Walker Brothers for Look Chocolate

image

I just randomly stumbled upon and decided to share this late 60’s Japanese chocolate commercial featuring The Walker Brothers. So funny to see Scott Walker, eternally brooding quasi-operatic divo, happily hawking the chocolate here.

This of course made me want to hear The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore because it’s such a hauntingly beautiful song. This is a pretty compelling performance as well even though it’s lip-synching.

A less widely appreciated tune. Also spooky good.

“Live” and somewhat countrified in 1975. That voice !

From where it all went completely nuts. I love it when that happens. 1978’s Nite Flights LP.

I hope you’ve seen 30 Century Man: Scott Walker by now! What fun for any artist, much less a former pop star, to be doing the most radical work of their life in their 60s.

“The Electrician” is my favorite six minutes in the history of pop music. Someone needs to post his version of Dylan’s “I Threw It All Away.”

The track I like best from that era is Fat Mama Kick. That song also reminds me of Lydia Lunch’s Queen of Siam album in a lot of ways.
