Buzkashi, Or Quidditch, Kabul-Style

“Bloody, barbaric, free-for-all,” or the must-see ticket for the 2012 London Olympics?  Welcome to the wonderful and frightening world of Buzkashi, a sport which, thanks to our prior scrubbing of the Taliban from Afghanistan, is now bigger than ever:

Is the world ready for a sport played with a headless goat carcass?  Haji Abdul Rashid thinks it is and has big plans: corporate sponsors, television rights and beyond.  “We want it to become an Olympic sport,” says Rashid, who heads the Buzkashi Federation.

To understand how ambitious ?

I… I don’t understand why we haven’t turned Afghanistan into an above-ground nuclear testing range already.

Because we, the US, do the nuclear tests at home!
The ball in most sports is made of leather which is made out of animals skin and the goat is dead anyway, and food being a luxury the goat is the prize at the end of the game.
If we follow dear Christopher’s logic we could make of Spain and south of France an “above-ground nuclear testing range” since they still enjoy the pleasures of bullfighting!

What a great article, written on the purpose (?) of pushing in even more a nail that is already lost under all the blows, Afghanistan, to the western countries, already represent evil for unfortunately being the playground of “great” nations such as the US, the ex USSR, Pakistan, ...
I’m not against criticizing a violent sport, but starting the article with as much violence as the one described is just… weak
