Behold a clip from Deafula, a 1975 horror film made entirely in American Sign Language. Probably the first and last of its kind.

A blow-by-blow gesture-by-gesture description of the film can be found at the great Recap Agony website.

I reviewed this one a couple of years back at my site, http://www.cinema-suicide.com/2007/10/22/in-transylvania-no-one-can-hear-you-scream-deafula/ - Frankly, I’m shocked it hasn’t penetrated the cult film community deeper. It’s a really weird movie.

I am writing this to tell you I knew the entire Cast including the Star, Peter Wechsberg aka Wolf BECAUSE my sister was in the movie..she played the motor cycle chick who had a short lived spot in the film. I have seen a lot of negative remarks regarding the ‘acting’ on different sites.First of all the only actor with any experience was Peter and this was his first shot…and to date the ONLY movie I know of made just for the Deaf.Secondly…if you have ever really been around the Deaf then you would know that they speak with their entire body…not just with their fingers..hence ‘‘over acting’‘
