Last time it was Halloween candy, now it’s earthquakes. Is there ANYTHING shameful opportunist Pat Robertson can’t link to some infernal cause?!
“Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it,” he said. “They were under the heel of the French…and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, ‘We will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French.’ “True story. And the devil said, ‘OK, it’s a deal,’” Robertson said. “Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another.”
I love how Christian Christians are to other Christians: Haiti is 87% Christian at last count.
Go Pat keep on spreading “God’s word”

I thought the whole point of ‘swearing a pact with the Devil’ was to have good luck until the day you died, when you’d have to turn over your soul.
Linking being ‘cursed’ and bad luck to a pact with the Devil isn’t theologically sound, even in those circles that interpret things in very strange ways.

Curious what DM contributor Jason Louv has to say about this based on past statements not too different from Robertson.

I think that what has happened in Haiti is a complete shame.

Perhaps, Robertson is referring to the fact that Haiti was the first and only slave colony which rebelled, overthrew and banished their slave masters and for this the country had been severely ostracized for many decades. That said, Robertson must still think it’s 1793.

That picture of Robertson looks really like Alfred E. Neumannn from ‘MAD’ magazine.
His raving about Haiti is twisted, insensitive and lunatic. WHY do the US media continue to give this evil dinosaur any oxygen?
