Indian patient Prahlad Jani claims he has survived without food and water for more than seven decades.
 
Currently being held in isolation by India’s Defense Research Development Organization, Prahlad Jani has now gone six days without food or water and has yet to demonstrate any signs of hunger or thirst (he hasn’t crapped or peed either).  Doctors feel the long-practicing “breatharian” might possess some hidden “key” that will help save lives.  And by “lives,” they mean, naturally, military lives:

Mr Jani is regarded as a breatharian who can live on a ‘spiritual life-force’ alone.  He believes he is sustained by a goddess who pours an ‘elixir’ through a hole in his palate.  His claims have been supported by an Indian doctor who specializes in studies of people who claim supernatural abilities, but he has also been dismissed by others as a “village fraud.”

India’s Defence Research Development Organisation, whose scientists develop drone aircraft, intercontinental ballistic missiles and new types of bombs believe Mr Prahlad could teach them to help soldiers survive longer without food, or disaster victims to hang on until help arrives.  “If his claims are verified, it will be a breakthrough in medical science,” said Dr G Ilavazhagan, director of the Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences.  “We will be able to help save human lives during natural disasters, high altitude, sea journeys and other natural and human extremities. We can educate people about the survival techniques in adverse conditions with little food and water or nothing at all.”

Have you ever tried to do deep meditation for atlest more than 12 Hr contneously?

If any body wants to tell that it is impossible, I request people first attain a state (in meditation) to forget your self with out any thoughts and then post a comment here.

Because I did both but I couldnt able to suceed contineous fating (21days and few hours) as I didnt do contineous meditation during those days

What is so hard to believe? Everyone believes is that you can not live without food!! When you have faith…everything you need is given too you!The problem with everyone who does not believe this can be done is that they don not have enough faith!! The beauty and irony of this is that we all see things from where we sit.  Scepticism is part of the natural course of evolution.

A “good lab test” you say? Defined as what? They’ve “tested” him for 15 days. They’ve said that it all has been filmed. Great! I’m sure the scientific world will be interested in seeing the results made public for review.

In the meantime, they are only testing him for 15 days. Why? The claim that his safety could not (would not) be insured by the companies financing the research. The only way this small study could be carried out was from government financing.

He survived for 15 days without food, not much of a feat. He was allowed to bathe and gargle with water. The gargled water was measured to check if any had been swallowed, but not the bath water. No chance he could have siphoned any of that bathing water through his beard and down his throat? You ever get water down your nose when splashing your face in the morning?

Humans can go without food for months. There are numerous documented cases of individuals doing just that. But water? 5 to 6 days without any water intake and you’re done.

So how many tests would it take to convince us skeptics, Markus? Only one, designed and administered properly. This study certainly wasn’t it.

The guy has gone “70 years” without drinking, so let’s sit him down for a month without the gargling and splashing about in the tub and see how he does. Folks do just fine without bathing for weeks, and we could certainly clean him up with a few damp towels every day.

The result? Not hard to guess. RIP Mr. Guru.

If you want people to be amazed, then do something truly amazing for all the world to see. Nothing in this study even begins to approach the lower limits of that dimension. Only the truly gullible can’t see how this study is so utterly unremarkable.

In this case, I dont bother about proving his ability to stay with out food and water but i just take a message that Doing meditation is good for health in many ways ( I am doing since 10 years)

If I am there in his vicinity, I will ask what are his experiences in meditation and how he do that, instead of How he can able to survive with out food and water.

I don’t believe that any human being can live without drinking water and eating some food for long. Surviving on just breathing is impossible.

An independent testing by skeptics, with CCTVs, Round the clock security and keeping the man away from water (even for gargling or bathing) and food will call his (more likely his devoteess bluff) bluff. If being a holy person he insists on taking bath he should be weighed before and after bath.

It would be better if he is kept on a weigh bridge with constant recording of his weight on computer.

Doctors like Sudhir shah who may have vested interest in perpetrating the myth to keep themselves in the lime light should be kept away.

Also please advise daily loss of fluid and energy for a person of Mr Jani’s built and age? Can just breathing provide that much of fluid through the moiture contained in the inhaled air?

Have his intenstines not gone out of use due to no ingestion of food for so long?

His blood urea should also turn very high due to back pressure on kidneys as he does not urinate.

Without intake of food, his sugar level is also likely to be abysmally low. Can he see properly?

More than him, his closest aides need to be examined closely. I am sure they are making a lot of money through offerings on this mataji by creating and perpetrating this myth.
