Stunt Rock

New on DVD, Stunt Rock. This film mixes footage from an Australian stunt man with onstage performances of an awful, idiotic heavy metal rock band called Sorcery.

Here’s a description:

Australia’s premier stuntman, Grant Page, is on a mission: filmmaker Brian Trenchard Smith has sent him to LA to work on a TV series. Here he meets up with fellow daredevil Cutis Hyde, who does stunt work for a theatrical rock band called Sorcery, and Page impresses the rockers so much with his daredevil antics that they hire him as well. While his first stunt lands him in the hospital, the reckless Page defies his doctors orders, escaping out of the ward’s fifth-story window to get back to the band. Page soon finds himself the focus of the ladies, attracting both a newspaper reporter (Margaret Gerard) and a television star (Monique van de Ven). Featuring non-stop action, a killer soundtrack and a bit of romance on the side, STUNT ROCK is an adrenaline-filled, cult classic that is sweeping the midnight circuit!

The good vs evil heavy metal number is really something to see. Once. Or as Harry Knowles would have it: “Stunt Rock is not a very good film, but sometimes a movie doesn?

You clearly have way too much time on your hands, sir, and should get out more. YouTube addiction is a terrible disease.

That said, Stunt Rock looks more interesting than that ‘Derren Brown predicts the lottery’ bullshit I just finished watching on Channel Four tonight.

The clue is in the title of the show: ‘Control The Nation’.

Television is horrible. People are such gullible idiots.

This is this the film Spinal Tap should have scored.

Overuse of Sorcery’s onstage fire-tossing wizard is a good start, tho. : )

I have seen this picture years ago.
The moron who says this is like Spinal Tap simply doesn’t get it! These guys have real talent..unlike that reviewer that made that comment.
The Band SORCERY were a great band, comprised of world class musicians and magicians.
Also…they were way ahead of their
time with respect to the live stage show they did.
Don’t let some “wanna be critic” tell you otherwise. The film is well worth watching, and if you have it on DVD you will watch it more than once. The band in the film (SORCERY) have millions of fans around the world and they are not all wrong!
The music was by far some of the best movie music
back then and now available.

Hey Richard Metzger….
Your comments on this film are misleading and amateurish at best!
Let’s help you out a little.
First…If you consider yourself to be a journalist…Do some background work!
Now…try this.
The film “STUNTROCK” was made in 1978,
It was directed by Brian Trenchard Smith.
Long before any “CGI” and special effects to
help stuntmen do some very difficult work.
Next…The Plot…Yes it’s simple..but there is one. It’s a look at the inside workings of stuntmen in the movies,as told by the real and professional stuntman,Grant Page, who describes in detail what they are called on to do and how they prepare for and execute their jobs in movies.
(I hope I’m not going to fast for you)
Next..The Music.
Some details,not your unqualified opinion.
Musicians..The group “SORCERY”
From: Los Angeles CA.
Record Label: EMI/Polygram Records 1978.
BTW…They were outstanding, not awful.
Richard..You must really be new at this
or just not trained in your job?
For example…About the band.
Did you know the “Hard Rock” music, was done by studio session players from Los Angeles, who were also were very accomlished players. S.A.G and A.F.T.R.A. members.
They were in a great theatrical group “SORCERY” and also hired for this movie “gig”. They did other films and TV appearences as well.
Note: This film has shown a number of times around the world including in Austin TX. at the “Alamo Draft House” and Beverly Hills Ca. at the “New Beverly Cinema”. I saw it in Austin TX. and it was very well received.
I’d say 85-90% of the people I saw it with enjoyed the film and especially the music.
Austin is a big music town and the band “SORCERY” who appears in this film went over very well! They do have fans from all over the world. Of course you being a self promoting critic and not knowing much about music…would understand that!
In closing…Stuntrock was a fun film, great music and very entertaining! My advice…Don’t listen to wantna be critics like Richard here…they never get it right! See it for yourself.
